Taplow United manager Billy Jawandha believes that reaching the Ascot & District (Fielden) Cup Final this season is reward for their improvement over the past three years.

The Swans have played some excellent football this season, culminating in a win on penalties against Britwell in the semi finals of the charity cup competition last weekend.

Jawandha has hailed their effort to reach the Final match as a “great achievement” and he hopes that his team can put on a show against Slough Heating Laurencians F.C Reserves at The Racecourse Ground on Friday night (8pm kick off).

He explained: “We always place reaching a Cup Final high on our agenda at the start of the season, so reaching this Final was a part of the teams development over the past three years.

“We’ve had four very tough games to get to the Final; beating both F.C Baylis United and Langley F.C Reserves 3-2 in close encounters, before Holmer Green F.C Development were beaten 2-0 in the Quarter Finals.

“The Semi Finals tie versus Britwell showed just how far we’ve come having lost at their place 6-0 last season. The lads come through to win 4-1 on penalties after a 2-2 draw. This result was especially special considering the excellent season Britwell have had.

“It’s a great achievement for the team to reach the Ascot & District Cup Final. We’ve always regarded this competition as one that we should be competing in, and this season we were given that opportunity.”

Looking ahead to the Final match, the Chairman said: “Slough Heating Laurencians F.C is a great club. We’ve always had tough games against them. This season, they’ve already won their league and proved that they’re a top side. Both sides know each other well and lets hope we put on a great show for everyone.

“My message to supporters and followers of the club is to come along and support the team: enjoy the game and please respect our opponents.”

Taplow United finished in sixth position in Hellenic League Division Two East this season with four wins and two draws in their 14 league matches.

The Swans are without a win in the league since early February but showed their capabilities in a draw with champions, Prestwood, on the final day of the campaign as well as a single-goal defeat to the top side earlier in the season.

Jawandha said: “We’ve had a good season playing some excellent football. Results haven’t reflected the performances which have been greatly influenced by player availability and injuries.

“Overall, the team has achieved the targets set at the start of the season, culminating in reaching the Ascot & District Cup Final.

“The current form has been greatly affected by player injuries and availability however, the true form of the side was shown when they held Prestwood to a 1-1 draw.”

The Swans’ main danger could well be Aaron Kew who has scored six goals in 13 appearances so far this season. Edward Freeman is the second-highest scorer with four efforts in his 13 games.
