Iver Heath have to keep on improving against Cup 'giant slayers', Southcote on Saturday

Iver Heath manager Darren Partington hopes that his team can produce a repeat of their impressive performance last weekend in their trip to Southcote in the East Berkshire League Premier Division on Saturday (2pm ko).

The Heath impressed in a 2-0 win at Old Windsor in the Maidenhead Norfolkian Senior Cup last weekend to book their place in the quarter finals of the competition.

Iver can leapfrog Southcote in the table with a win at Burghfield Community Sports Association on Saturday but, Partington knows his team will have to keep on improving against the rising stars of Southcote.

He said: “It’s been a bit of a stop-start season so far fixtures-wise, so tough to build any sort of momentum.

“We’ve had three positive performances and results, and one not so good so far, and we hope to build on the Cup win against Old Windsor. That was a good performance against one of the top teams. We will have to repeat that performance this Saturday against a decent, young Southcote team, the Cup ‘giant slayers’ of last season.

“Southcote are not to be taken lightly as we found out when they beat us in the Ascot & Fielden Charity Cup last season. They made the final then and ran Singh Sabha very close in it. They also took voluntary promotion into the Premier Division this season which has to be respected.

“I’m looking forward to a goof game and a positive result for Iver but, this league is unforgiving and points have to be earned, not given. We know that a strong performance is needed every week as, on their day, anyone can beat anyone in this league”.

Elsewhere, in the Premier Division this Saturday KS Gryf entertain Frontline at Polish Association looking for their first win in the season. The two teams shared the points in a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture earlier this month.
