BAYLIS United came so close to causing one of the upsets of the season in a thrilling nine-goals Slough Town Cup tie on Saturday.
The Division One team were huge underdogs in the quarter finals match against the Premier Division leaders, despite Britwell manager John Brennan making 10 changes to the side that drew with Old Windsor the previous weekend.
The tie ended 4-4 after 90 minutes before Craig Kelly netted the ninth and deciding goal of the game. Nathan Lishman stared with a hat-trick for Britwell with Brandon Cooper also on target.
Baylis forced the match into an additional 30 minutes period thanks to two goals apiece from Haris Farooq and Bilal Mahmoud.
United boss Haseeb Ishaq said: “I thought it was a good performance from us. It was a very tough game against the Premier Division leaders at the moment.
“We gave them a good run for their money and were a little bit unlucky with some of the goals we conceded. But we scored some very good goals.
“It was a very good game. Britwell showed their experience towards the end and good luck to them for the rest of the competition.
“We’ve got them again next week (League Cup, 1.30pm) so hopefully we can give them another good run for their money.
“It was a cracking game to watch, some disallowed goals, a couple of penalty decisions and a red card, the match had everything in it. It was good to watch for the neutral.
“We feel a little bit unlucky but at the end of the day Britwell maybe deserved it. It is a little bit hard for me to say that but it’s maybe what they deserved and we wish them well in the rest of their games.”
With Britwell not in action in the league, KS Gryf took full advantage to close the gap at the top of the Premier Division to five points with a 4-2 home win against Stoke Poges.
Singh Sabha remain in third place after thrashing Pundit 8-0. Karin Chaibi bagged a second-half hat-trick with Pritpal Raju netting either side of the break. There was further goals from Conrad Joseph, Mubarak Bashir and Hassan Mahmood.
Both Cressex and Iver Heath missed the opportunity to climb up the table after a 3-3 draw.
Harts Of Bracknell returned to the top in Division One after beating Braywood Beavers 3-0 at home.
Southcote missed the chance to close the gap on the top three when falling to a 3-0 loss to Eton Wick. The goals for the visitors came from Robbie Baisden, Adam Richards and Daniel Rowley.
Winkfield Reserves recorded the biggest win in the League so far this season when trouncing bottom side The Riverside 16-1.
Phil Newport scored a hat-trick as Hype Train saw off lower level Sandhurst Town 8-0 in the preliminary round of the Presidents Cup. Leon Mannion netted twice with further goals from Paul Hatfield and John Watkins.
