PICTURE CAPTION: The new East Berkshire Football League Premier Division season got under way on Saturday and the opening weekend saw A.F.C Reading, Pundit and Sandhurst Royals all score six goals in victories.
A.F.C Reading hit Cookham Dean for six when launching their East Berkshire Football League Premier Division campaign on Saturday.
Reading finished in sixth position in Division One last season but have been promoted into the Premier Division following a restructure of the league in the summer.
And the West Berkshire team wasted no time in making an instant impact in the top flight with an emphatic victory at the Alfred Major Recreation Ground.
Charlie Smith led the Reading rout with two goals in the first half, and then scored again three minutes into the second period to complete his hat-trick.
Cookham Dean pulled a goal back through Joseph Newman just after the hour mark but that was all the E.B.F.L newcomers had to cheer in the debut match.
Ian Addae hit the back of the net minutes later to restore the three-goal advantage, before both Reece Jones and Ollie Martin were on target inside the last two minutes of the game.
Sandhurst Royals and FC Baylis United both secured promotion from Division One last season and now looking to bed roots in the top-flight. The Royals struck first in the Premier Division with a 6-3 victory at Sandhurst Memorial Park.
There was a brace each for Louis Cote and Harry Winkley, with Klim Kapuka and substitute Isaac Ababio also on the scoresheet. Haris Farooq was on target for FC Baylis either side of the half-time interval, with Ibrahim Sajid finding a route to goal in the second period.
Pundit were another team to hit their opponents for six on the opening weekend of the new Premier Division season; beating KS Gryf 6-4 at The Polish Association.
The Pundit destroyer-in-chief was Kingley Etefia with a hat-trick whilst Connor Dobbyn helped himself to a brace, with Adam Durrant also hitting the back of the net.
KS Gryf are another team to be promoted into the Premier Division as a result of the restructure and will be bidding to maintain their new top-flight status this season. Oskar Luniewski scored two in the opening weekend defeat, with both Tanyaradzwa Chiutsi and Wilson De Almeida also on the scoresheet.
Slough Heating Laurencians Reserves made it two-from-two in Division One after a 4-0 win against E.B.F.L debutants Bracknell Aces at The Polish Association. The four goals were shared between Craig Kelly, Joshua Kurton, Michael Sanderson and Callum Stanley.
Old Windsor Reserves are helping to set the early pace at the top of the table thanks to a 6-0 success over HKRG United. Mark Walker and Oliver Murray both scored twice in the first half at Old Windsor Recreation Ground. A Sean Blandford effort made it five for the team before the break and Josh O’Reilly added a sixth goal inside the last 20 minutes of the match.
Hype Train are the third side to be two-from-two in Division One after their 5-2 win against E.B.F.L newcomers Taplow United Swans at Waingels College. The scores were tied at two apiece at the interval; Phil Newport and Christian Freemantle on target for The Train, and Alex Seymour hitting a brace for Taplow. The home team steamed ahead in the second period to secure all three points with Mitchell Saunders, Nadim Gharabli and Freemantle all finding a route to goal.
Caversham United made some club history by winning in their first-ever Saturday adult competitive fixture - a 3-2 success in a Reading derby match against Prospect at Calcot Recreation Ground. The inaugural Billy Goats goal came from Bevan Van Wyk before Ross Blakemore bagged a brace in the second half. Prospect player-manager Dawid Jarzebowski scored twice for his side but it was not enough to avoid a second consecutive league defeat.
