Grit and determination can see Sandhurst challenge on all fronts this season - Jordan Goodall

PICTURE: Sandhurst Town have won their first two matches in Division One of the East Berkshire League this season and host Stoke Poges in the League Cup first round today (2pm KO).

Sandhurst Town manager Jordan Goodall believes that his team has improved over the summer and now in a position to challenge on all fronts this season.

Town became members of the East Berkshire League in 2019 but only finished third bottom and twice second from bottom in the lowest division so far.

Good admits that the Clubs has gone through some building years but, with the addition of some new talent as well as added grit and determination, Sandhurst have made a flying start to the new season.

Goodall said: “It has been a couple of building years for Sandhurst but this year we’re really in a position where we want to Challenge on all fronts.

“We’ve brought in some really keen players and the training throughout the summer was really extreme, the intensity levels were high. The fitness levels are showing and this is something that I want us to start showing in the League if we’re going to challenge for things.

“We’ve got some brilliant players that are keen to come down and play, and to have 16 each week definitely makes my life hard but that’s the way I want it to be this season.

“We want to be fighting on all fronts, in the Cup and in the League. I want us to really hit the heights this year. We’ve set a standard and know how good we can be so this year I really do want us to aim for everything.

“I just think that we have a lot of players around the camp now that are showing a little bit of grit, fight and character. We’ve got some leaders in the squad now and that’s something that we’ve not had in a while. I really do think that this year it will lift the team and encourages them.

“Going forward into this season we’ve got some real keen players and I really feel like these are the players that can take a game by the scruff of the neck and win them for us.”

Sandhurst turn their attention to the League Cup today (Saturday, 2pm KO) and a tough first round tie at home to Stoke Poges, relegated from the Premier Division last season.

Goodall commented: “Stoke Poges are a familiar face because we’ve played them a lot of times over the past few years, and we got the better of them in pre-season.

“We know that it’s going to be another tough encounter and that we’ve got to be on our game, and we know that we have got to lift it from the standards last weekend. We weren’t at our best last weekend but today we will hopefully be looking forward to getting a first Cup win of the season.”
