Old Windsor Reserves kept themselves in contention for the Division One title after a 2-1 win at Hambleden on Saturday. Writes Rob Stevens.
The team is chasing pacesetters Iver Heath and a first-half brace from Lewis Hewitt plus a man-of-the-match performance by Jon Hill moves them to within four points of the runaway leaders.
Old Windsor has the advantage of a game in hand on Iver with the two sides set to meet in a possible title-decider at Old Windsor Recreation Ground on Saturday 12 June (2pm).
Townmead are mathematically still in with a chance of winning the league and moved up one place to third following a 2-1 victory at Hype Train. The hosts missed a few guilt-edged chances in what was a combative game in the heat against a very good Townmead outfit. Goalkeeper Jake Holloway was the standout performer for the losing team having made a number of cracking saves on his Saturday debut for the club.
EBFL Division Two:
AFC Cressex improved their chances of winning Division Two without kicking a ball last weekend as Barton Rovers and Punit, the two main rivals in the title race, drew 2-2 in West Berkshire. Ollie Higgs was on target for Barton in a game that could have gone either way.
The result means Cressex are six points clear of the chasing pack but having played two more matches than both Barton and Pundit. The league leaders travel to Theale Green School to take on Barton Rovers this Saturday (2pm).
Eton Wick did their goal difference no harm by thrashing FC Baylis United 11-3, whilst AFC Winkfield Reserves recorded only their second win of the season when beating bottom-side Phoenix Old Boys 4s 5-2.
Stoke Poges Saints Reserves remain safely in mid-table following a narrow 2-1 victory at Chalvey Sports A. Luke Phipps was man-of-the-match for Stoke Poges with Phil Wong scoring one of the two goals. Chalvey admitted that errors had cost them team again in what has become a frustrating season for them.
EBFL Premier Division:
The focus returns to the Premier Division this Saturday as league leaders Britwell host defending champions and second-placed Old Windsor at the Chicken Ranch (2pm). There is currently just two points separating the sides with three matches remaining this season. There was nothing to split the two teams in a 1-1 draw at Old Windsor back in April.
Singh Sabha are only four points from the top, with a game in hand on both sides above them, and return to action with a trip to fourth-placed SB Phoenix on Saturday (2pm). Phoenix drew 0-0 with bottom side KS Gryf last Wednesday.
