'Anything is possible' for rising stars Southcote in 100th Ascot & Fielden Charity Cup final

Southcote manager Paul Reddington believes anything is possible as his young stars prepare to face Singh Sabha in the Ascot & Fielden Charity Cup final at Ascot United on Friday (7.45pm).

Sabha are the defending Premier Division champions and have a proud history of success in Cup competition, most recently lifting the League Cup this season as well as reaching the Slough Town Cup final.

Southcote however, are in their first ever season in the East Berkshire League, and will go into the Ascot Cup’s 100th celebratory final as underdogs in the eyes of many spectators.

The team have beaten three Premier Division teams to reach the final, including a high-scoring win at Britwell in the semi finals, and have a chance of promotion from Division One.

Reddington admitted it is a ‘great achievement’ for his stars to reach the final and, only a fool would write off one of the League’s aspiring talents.

He said: “Southcote has been preparing for this match over the last month with our team selection in the league fixtures. We want everyone to take part and we needed to ensure we had no injuries and that everyone is fit and available to play. We are planning a light training session midweek.

“Being from a different league, we don't know much about Singh Sabha. We watched them in the League Cup Final against Old Windsor, they’re a strong side and we know it’s going to be tough game for us.

“We’ve had a tough run in this competition facing three top Premier Division sides to get to the final.

“We’re going into the game as big underdogs but, if we give it our all, anything is possible.”

Reddington added: “Making it to the final in our first season in men’s football is a great achievement, we still can’t quite believe it to be honest. This would mean everything to the players, managers and all involved at Southcote.”
